Now that Switzerland is foolishly no longer neutral, we have a great opportunity to step in and take their place.
Australia is not a military power of any significance in the world. We make no practical difference in terms of arms in any conflict, but only make up minor auxiliary forces for larger powers. Our soldiers punch above their weight and are brave men. But above your weight still doesn't mean a lot when the real powers out there are punching back at rates we cannot match.
But we have the ability to back out of our aggressive military alliances (we've invaded many countries that never attacked us), and seek to pursue the strategy that kept Switzerland neutral for two centuries.
That strategy is waiting there for a smart, civilized, society to take hold of. It is the only smart way forward for our nation, and our best hope of peace. It's possible it is too late, considering our current trajectory and history of military aggression. But it would be the best approach moving forward.
