Mary Defends The Innocent

The Bible does not tell us exactly how the incarnation worked, it does not tell us at what moment the flesh of Jesus united with the divine or how the Spirit did this. Jesus was just always human and divine. It does not tell us exactly how this works. All it tells us is that the child in Mary's womb was conceived of the Holy Spirit and is the Lord of Israel, God with us, Immanuel. The whole experience from beginning to end is encapsulated as Mary holding the Holy One in her womb.

This should inform how we view conception and abortion. Hypothesising about what precise moment in time the child receives their soul or their human identity is inane speculation. The whole process from beginning to end includes a child in the womb. The woman, just as Mary was, is 'with child'. There is at no point, then, that it is moral to interfere with its life.

Jesus redeemed humanity with his life, and he sanctified child rearing in the way he came into the world. Showing the whole process includes a remarkable, and unique life, that should be treasured and respected, and protected.

At no point is it moral to take a child's life. At no point can it be said that there is not a unique and treasured life in the mother's womb. Mary’s example defends the innocent, her pregnancy was not necessary to show that abortion was evil, we already could establish that from other passage, such as “thou shalt not kill.” But it cements the case beyond all dispute.
