Trump is Not Hitler

Trump is not Hitler. 

Trump is not a dictator. 

Trump is not a fascist. 

Trump is not Darius or Cyrus. 

All these historical comparisons are facile, and are driven by emotionalism, either anti-Trump emotion, or pro-Trump emotion. But they are simplistic and really nonsense. 

If Trump is to be compared to any historical figure with any critical thinking, it is Tiberius Gracchus, one of the Gracchi or Roman brothers, who as a populist took the reigns of Roman power, and tried to use them to restore some of the rights and prosperity back to the people that they once had. 

Tiberius Gracchus was from among the elite, but not part of the core ruling elite faction. He could stir the crowds up, because he actually understood them, and their plight. He was successful, but shunned by many other elites. Considered too common. 

But he faced such an entrenched wealthy oligarchical elite that was so corrupt that he also corruptly used some of the laws to make decrees in favour of the people. The system was so corrupted he could find no other way, and the wealthy elite were ignoring the rule of law anyway. He manipulated the law to try and stop the elites flagrant abuse of the law. 

But when he did this, they went against him. They wickedly used the laws they refused to apply to themselves to destroy him. 

Tiberius failed. He came about when the Republic was too corrupt for politics to save the nation. But others observed this, including military men, eventually one of them, a guy called Julius, would just use the army to enforce his will. 

There are more similarities between Trump and Tiberius Gracchus than any other historical figure. Trump will almost certainly fail, America is already a corrupt Banana republic. I wonder what Generals are currently watching him, observing whether or not he fails?
