Only One Head of the Church

To claim to be the head of that which the Bible says Jesus is the head of, is blasphemy, "22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Eph. 1:22-23).

Christ is the head of the Church, and the Church is his body. He is the head over all things for the church.

The first duty of a man taking a human position as head of the church, should be to then vacate that throne and give it unto Christ and Christ alone.

I know some people might be shocked to hear me commenting on this, because I don’t get into criticizing the Catholic church often. But remember I am a Baptist minister, and our denomination was forged in a context where the Church was seeking to get back to the early, or primitive, church, and the primitive church did not have a pope. Originally, the Pope of Rome was simply another Bishop, and then he was the first among equals. The idea of him being the head of the Church developed over time.

But all the while that this was happening Ephesians 2:22-23 was in the Bible pointing us to who was the real head of the church all along.

Now, I am the first to admit that the Baptist Church has become as corrupted as the Catholic Church in recent decades. There is no perfect church denomination. But this should not stop us from pointing people to the clear teachings of the Bible as to who the head of the Church is. It is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and it is presumptuous for any many to claim that title.
