The American Perspective

American ministers often see Australia as a desperate barren mission field that needs hard work to be won to the gospel. They make standard biblical statements about the progressive culture of Australia and can at times create a great backlash amongst Aussie ministers who have become normalized to progressive culture without realizing it.

I have friends who have been to the American Bible belt, and who were blown away by how Christianity is represented in every aspect of the culture in many cities and towns across America. One friend told me they were amazed at how Spiritually alive it felt there, and this drove home how spiritually barren Australia was.

We should take note Australians. Many normie Christians, which is most Christians, are slowly and reluctantly coming around to the truth that we Christians are not just a minority, we are an odd minority with values and beliefs far outside the norm of Australian culture. The more traditional your biblical beliefs the more true this is, and the more likely you are to be aware of that. This is why many traditional American preachers can cause such a strong reaction, they often reflect old western and Christian values more thoroughly. Aussie Christians are often both distinct in ways from the Aussie secular society and wrapped up in it way to much.

Australia is a barren mission field in large part, because the church became complacent, and enjoyed the Aussie way of life, more than the gospel way of life. This needs to change. Very likely the change will be forced on us, by our hyper-progressive society.
