Individualism, an important tenet of modern conservatism and a strongly held belief among those on what is called the centre-right. And it happens to be one of the greatest evils our nation faces.
Individualism is the death of society, the death of culture, and the death of the individual. And it is a foundational cause for so much of the loneliness epidemic our weatern societies today face. Loneliness has long been understood to be a major cause of death all on its own, because of its association with depression, destructive choices and behaviours, and just because of the result the crushing weight of loneliness has on the human soul.
Individualism has bred this loneliness culture in the modern West. The only truth we ever needed to hear to know how wicked individualism is, was that it is not good for man to be alone. That's all we needed to know to reject it. Yet our society and our churches embraced it as a pillar of the modern West. Individualism is a dead-end, in many ways literally.
Individualism is the society killer. It is seed of death that sprouts into many other forms of death for a people. It must be rejected. We must overcome this scourge.
God created us to live in families, to function in churches (believing communities), he did not create us to handle loneliness.
