I don’t think Australia is necessarily on track to becoming a communist nation, or old school totalitarian society. It’s doesn’t need to.
The schooling system is already capable of convincing/supporting kids to mutilate their bodies with chemical puberty blockers or total genital removal. And you are pegged as bad if you say this is wrong, even by some of the Church.
The vast majority of the population feel comforted when the state takes complete control of their every day life. Including provision, where they are allowed to go, eat, or socialize etc, if they are just prodded enough with fear. And most people just expect the government to provide for them.
Society celebrates aborting a fair proportion of the children conceived each year. Mothers hating their children enough to get rid of them before birth is seen as a badge of honour of our society.
Australians have little say in who comes into their own country and competes for their homes and jobs, and just accept it. And even if they don’t, both sides of politics ignore their opinion on this anyway.
Why would communists or totalitarians have to step out of the shadows? They can just keep up the pretence of democracy and achieve their goals anyway. Because most people will vote for the state to keep giving them things, and the state will keep buying them off.
Australia is a society in much the same shape at the late stage rat utopia experiment: fat, happy people, that don’t mind that their society is dying. They are content with what is being offered, and talk of liberty is foreign to them. So foreign they see those who talk about it as scary and dangerous.
Why would the the totalitarian bother being open about their goals? They’ve effectively achieved most of them, without any revolutions, or gulags. Marx would stare in abject wonder at what his modern ideological descendants have achieved. Even he could not achieve this much. Even he could not imagine the Church he wanted disempowered and sidelined would not only capitulate, but become a salesmen for his goals. Even he did not conceive of this being possible without massive turmoil and revolution to achieve it.
Remarkable.
Voting won’t change this. Revival maybe. Collapse is most likely though. Fascinating to live in such time.
